Men"s short track athlete Park Ji-won (Seoul Metropolitan Government) and women"s athlete Park Ji-won (Jeonbuk-do Province) won gold and silver medals, respectively, at the Four Continents Championships.
Park won the men"s 1,500-meter final at the International Ice Skating Union (ISU) Short Track Quadrennial Championships in Laval, Quebec, Canada, on Friday (June 5) with a time of 2 minutes, 33.158 seconds.
After lingering in the back of the field until midway through the race, Park Ji-won broke away to take the lead with seven laps to go.
From there, she gradually increased her pace, sapping the energy from her competitors and crossing the line first with plenty of time to spare.
In the final lap, she pulled away from the second-place group.
Park is a fixture on the Korean short track scene, ranked No. 1 in the World Cup Series for the 2022-2023 season.
At the Four Continents Championships, where athletes from Asia, the Americas, Africa, and Oceania compete, she started her gold medal hunt on day one.
His compatriot Kim Gun-woo (Sportsnet) took bronze in 2 minutes, 33.324 seconds.
