\Rory\s Garden\ PGA Tour Wells Fargo Championship last year next

The Wells Fargo Championship, considered one of the major tournaments on the PGA Tour, will end next year.
Wells Fargo, a financial company that hosts the Wells Fargo Championship, announced on the 11th (Korean time), "We have decided to stop hosting the tournament starting in 2025."
This competition began in 2003 under the name of the Wachovia Championship, and has been held as the Wells Fargo Championship since 2011, when Wells Fargo took over as sponsor.
Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, where the tournament is held, is a prestigious golf course that has hosted the PGA Championship and the Presidents Cup, and is famous for its high level of difficulty among courses where PGA Tour tournaments are held.
Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland) won the championship three times (2010, 2015, 2021) and is called ‘Rory’s Garden.’
Wells Fargo"s decision to stop hosting the Wells Fargo Championship is not unrelated to the special designated tournament system that the PGA Tour introduced last year to compete with LIV Golf.
The specially designated competition increases the total prize money to $20 million and guarantees the participation of top players.
In particular, starting next year, only around 78 players will participate in the eight specially designated competitions without a cut, and the Wells Fargo Championship is also included in the specially designated competitions without a cut.
However, Wells Fargo reportedly wanted to hold the event as a regular tournament rather than a specially designated tournament, causing friction with the PGA Tour"s new policy.
The PGA Tour announced that it will begin looking for a new sponsor to host the tournament starting in 2025.Once a new sponsor comes forward, the competition will be held at the Quail Hollow Club as before.
